S.I.T. and the Catholic Schools project in Syria
Trinitarian Solidarity International (S.I.T.) is supporting nine Catholic schools in Aleppo, Syria. The Humble Servants of Christ the Redeemer (the sodality of the Third Order of the Most Holy Trinity in Miami, Florida - USA) have committed to funding the schools for the 2018 school year. The budget to educate 2000 students is approximately USD$87,000. A relatively small amount to give these boys and girls a Catholic education, an escape from the challenges of surviving in a city that has been bombed back to the stone age, and an opportunity to create bonds that will help them succeed and become good men and women. This very worthy cause also provides donors a chance to witness God's redemptive love in the resilience of these families, but more importantly in the strength of the their faith. We should look to our brothers and sisters in Syria who refuse to renounce their faith and we should imitate their example. They have lost everything, but not their faith. In many cases they are returning to Aleppo after spending 2 or 3 years in exile - but they are not returning to the city they left; they are returning to a city they hope to rebuild. Our brothers and sisters are not asking that we rebuild their homes, they ask for support to rebuild their churches and schools because these are at the center of their community, and the source of the strength they need to care for their families and make sure that the flame of Christianity is not extinguished in Syria.
